Of mice and men

Well you would think by now I would be well into the opengl tutorials but alas I am not. Unfortunately for me I’ve become busy with another task setting up a server for the family business hits head which I have never done before. despite the fact that these things can be quite frustrating so far things are going relatively well. The only issue I’m having thus far is with the exchange server. For some reason it doesn’t want to send and receive email from my parents web host, although it does work fine with my host; kiwiwebhost. I’d been meaning to change there host over to my one for some time now anyway given how much cheaper they are and they have a really good setup.

The server has been fun but frankly it can be hard to work on cool stuff like this and not feel jealous of it. I mean I would kill for this stuff but given how my money and time is all committed to various business endeavours money is far from abundant. I think the think that is killing me the most about working on the server so far is the linksys wireless all in one unit. I’ve wanted one so badly for ages now and despite my best efforts I’m still living in a wired world. Just imagine what a tease it is for me to actually have an access point in my house (I’m setting the server up at home so not to interrupt the day to day running of the company) and not be able to keep it.

Anyway besides the server hardware etc I have also some new biological visitors in the form of wheat grass. Ages ago when I was sick I had tried just about everything to get better (except exercising and eating right hits head) and wheat grass was one of the things that actually did work well for me. Back then I was so desperate to get well I actually only consumed wheat grass for a whole week. Looking back I wonder how I actually managed it given how truly disgusting wheat grass drinks taste. So given I hate it so much taste wise why do I have it now? Well two main reasons 1) I like to grow things and 2) I like how it looks around the house. Now don’t get me wrong here, I’m far from being gardener of the year, but I do like to see things start out small and nurture them until they are large.

Maybe that’s why I enjoy business so much? For me it’s never really been about the money (obviously not given I have none) it’s more for the enjoyment of creating something, the freedom to do what I choose, and in the end have fun doing it. I’m actually feeling really good about all of the ventures I’m involved with looking forward. Long term I still have my heart set on started a game development company with a focus on telling great stories. One of the big things I want to do is develop a multiplayer first person shooter that runs like a TV series. Each week a new level/mission is released (like a TV episode) and as a team players must overcome the mission objectives and players would even make choices which would determine the outcome of the story. I think the setting would most likely be some kind of sci-fi future (possibly a Halo spin off if bungee would let me)

Arrr I’ve got to go to the gym before I go out to dinner at 6hits head eeek seeya
