Well today at last I got my body fat % measured but I didn’t get what I was expecting. I walk into the small room at the gym and the personal trainer said she could tell I had lost fat already, which made me feel good. She performed the measurements which showed reductions in every area measured (check out my updated goals page for the latest measurements) but then I mentioned the body fat % test I’d been using and my education began.
It would seem that using the body fat % that I’ve been going off is a total waste of time (meh) because it’s only working off four points of my upper body none of which took into account a males typical fat store – the abdomen. She then went on to explain how using body fat % test can very up to 5% depending on what formula used so they aren’t really that reliable.
So I walk out of the gym today knowing I’ve lost fat from the reductions in measurements taken but feeling a little disappointed I couldn’t get an accurate percentage. So I’ve been doing some searching on the Internet for a range of different body fat test and have discovered that my trainer is right body fat % formula’s are a joke. I found about 5 different formulas in about 30 mins of searching, and surprise surprise they all gave me significantly different results.
Unfortunately none of the formula’s I found used all of the points measured on my body, and most of them require a chest measurement, which isn’t done at my gym 😞 So unfortunately I guess I’m going to have to base my weight loss on the measurements alone until I manage to track down a way of measuring my body fat % that uses at least 6 points on my body that I’ve actually had measured.
