Killing nofollow

I was looking at the wordpress plugins over at Simple Thoughts today and learned something I didn’t know about wordpress blogs (wordpress is the blogging system Geekpulp is built on). Turns out that by default when users comment and put their URL in it has nofollow turned on. This means that when googles search spider comes to my site it doesn’t follow any of the links to my commenter’s blog sites. I understand the idea behind this is to stop spam, but unfortunately it also has the side effect of not providing any encouragement or incentive for other bloggers to post comments on here.

Luckily I managed to find a great plugin on Simple Thoughts which quickly and easily removed the no follow tags thereby rewording any blogger that comments on Geekpulp. I’m confident that with Spam Karma installed this will not lead to more spam, fingers crossed.
