Today was quite an interesting day. A couple of days ago my girlfriend told me about a friend of hers that is getting into his own business and wanted to have a bit of a talk. I find instant messaging services a really good way to get in touch with people but he uses ICQ over MSN, and unfortunately for me I’d stopped using ICQ quite a while ago opting for MSN instead. So I downloaded the free edition of Trillian (with an MSN Skin) which allows me to chat with people on basically any IM Service. Anyway today I finally got to talk to him and it was quite an interesting conversation.
It was actually kind of exciting talking to him given his business is in a similar area to my own. It reminded me of talking with Glutnix from Webfroot.co.nz about the possibilities that lay before us, and just a general good feeling of talking with like minded people. It also amused me to learn that he had recently had his hair cut at the same place I get mine done. He was talking to the hairdresser about what he’s doing, and she said he should get in touch with me! So there’s a lesson in that, always talk to everyone you know about what you’re up to, you never know where a new contact or opportunity might come from.
So now I’m really looking forward to this meeting and sorting out what we can do for each other, I really like personal and business relationships with mutual gains for all involved, its just more rewarding that way.
