The buzz of a Xbox 360 wireless headset.

[Xbox 360 Wireless Headset]

When I first started playing with my Xbox 360, I fell in love with just about every aspect of it except the very ugly wire that attached my headset to my controller. The wireless age of console gaming had already arrived so why was my head attached to my hands via a perilously thin, grey cable? Needless to say, when I heard the wireless headset was coming, I was excited.

Now, many months later, the wireless headset is out, making the true wireless setup complete. Sadly, this wireless dream isn’t exactly the rapture I’d hoped for, well not yet at least. I’m sorry to say that unless “Enhanced audio quality” (one of the main features listed on the box) from Microsoft actually means ‘free, annoying buzzing noise with every headset sold’, you’re going to be disappointed with the sound quality.

Last night for example, while playing Gears of War and conducting a Geekpulp writer’s ‘meeting’, I had to regularly reset my wireless headset to stop the endless buzzing. While I expected a few occasional hiccups with this kind of technology, resetting three times in a five minute period isn’t exactly ideal. I can only hope that things somehow improve in the form of a dashboard update. If the problem continues for much longer, I think I’ll have to go back to my wired headset, even if it gets in the way of my wireless Feng Shui.

Anyone else having this issue?
