With today’s Xbox 360 dashboard update comes support for video streaming of WMV files via Windows Media Connect, Zune, and Windows Media Player 11. Luckily the latter just happen to come out of beta the same day, almost like it was planned that way? I highly recommend upgrading, you can download it here.
It’s nice to have a no fuss media streaming experience without Media Connect, a solution I’ve never been a fan of. I tend to dislike anything that feels like an after thought or a work around. As well as feeling like more of a complete media solution WMP11 also has a crazy new feature, usability. That may seem hard to believe for anyone that’s ever used a past version of Windows Media Player, but it’s true. If this is a sign of things to come from the Media and Entertainment division of Microsoft I think we are in for an interesting ride.
