Given I’m set to do my share of travel in the next few years I was quite interested to see the PSP’s “Passport to…” software in EB Games. Passport to… is a PSP based guided tour of 6 destinations (Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Paris, Prague, Rome, each sold separately) including maps, What’s hot and what’s not guide, ‘off the beaten track’ audio walks, an audio phrasebook, and videos of highlights.
Normally I would completely rule out using something like this because the content can be so variable, but given its developed in conjunction with lonely planet it may actually be worthwhile. Sadly the PSP lacks a GPS function which would have really made this content useful. Perhaps GPS is something that could appear in future portable gaming hardware. As far as I am concerned every company developing a portable device should be including some form of GPS functionality. Location based gaming and services could be huge.
