Google Blog Search

Well it had to happen, with the seeming endless growth of blog sites Google has launched Google blog search. I’m sure sites like Technorati aren’t exactly over the moon at a heavy weight like Google entering their market, but I guess the inevitable truth is, get smart or get out.

Like most newly released Google products Google blog search is currently in beta, so its index is far from complete. The good news is Geekpulp is well indexed, in fact in some places it comes in ahead of things it shouldn’t have, but what do you expect from a beta. Personally I’m really not sure how useful blog search will be at this stage.

On a side note I was reading that Bill Gates recently said Microsoft doesn’t agree with Googles slogan (i.e. they are going to organise the world’s information). Initial this surprised me, but then he went on to say “Our slogan is that we are going to give people tools to let them organise the world’s information”. Of course all of this is really just a war of words and frankly I think that Google doesn’t mean to say they will control how things are organised and really they are just providing tools too.

What bothers me about when company’s like these go head to head and the war of words rages on is I’m forced to choose. Not in a million years would I be able to use Google services and with Microsoft services, and I find that a little frustrating. Wouldn’t it be nice if everything was based on open standards so everything would work together.
