Halo news, my favourite kind of news

I’m like some crazy person when it comes to Halo. Each week I eagerly await Frankie’s weekly update for even the smallest amount of information on the Halo Universe. I just can’t seem to get enough of story, having played both Halo 1 and 2, read all three novels (rumor has it more are in the works), and I’m dying to hear anything of the Halo movie which has been on the cards for some time now. Very little information has been officially confirmed to date so it was with a certain amount of excitement when I read “The Great (Hollywood) Journey“, an article written by non other than Joseph Staten, author/script writer of both Halo 1 and 2. The article doesn’t give away too much, just enough to get a crazy ass fan like me going nuts.

To start with it confirmed that Alex Garland, writer of “28 days later” and “The Beach“, has written the script for the film and according to Joseph Staten “I wrote the script for both Halo games, but as Alex’s interpretation rumbled from one climax to the next I found myself wondering (sometimes aloud): “Damn! How’s the Chief gonna fight his way outta this?!” Only to follow-up a few pages later with: “Oh man, I can’t wait to see that on screen!” Good stuff.” Now of course I realise that of course this guy is going to say this, its in his best interests for halo to be a success. But for some reason I trust what bungie say, maybe its because they seem to have such a passion for the story, and I just can’t see them letting down the fan base.

So what about actors and a director? Well no actors are named (personally I’m hoping they do the whole thing in CG) but they do have a list of directors they are looking at and there was an awful lot of talk about New Zealand’s very own Peter Jackson. Personally I think Peter would do a fantastic job of Halo and I truly hope that he gets the project, especially if it ends up being filmed here! I would do anything to be involved in making that movie, even if it was cleaning the gum from the lunch lady’s boots.

So will the movie be any good? Well if you base your conclusion on past game to movie films then you could assume that halo is in a world of trouble, but in halo isn’t like other games and bungie isn’t like other gaming companies. So based on the information at hand, as limited as that is, and the fact that I’m a crazy fan boy, I’d say that Halo is going to be the greatest sci-fi movie of all time, and you can quote me.
