Ever been sloshed at drunken party and said something you never lived down? (This is a rhetorical question BTW) Well I sure have. While at one such drunken party somehow we got onto the subject of singing. Of course being highly deluded by the effects of alcohol I said “I can sing, I’m the greatest singer in the world!” Ever since that time, if singing ever comes up it’s “oh ask Glen about that, he’s the greatest singer in the world”. So needless to say last night when Anna and I went to a party featuring a PS2 and a copy of Singstar party, I knew I was in for good time.
Now in my current sober state I wouldn’t be so bold to say that I’m the greatest singer in the world, but I’m not completely without music skill either. In my school days I was in the choir and have had a few singing lessons in my time so I’m probably marginally better than your average Joe, but not a lot more than that.
So after drinking for a while the group started feeling confident enough to have a bit of a Sing. Well at least we all thought we did, but it was amazing how the threat of making an arse of yourself very quickly sobered the group up. Luckily two of the girls happened to have more balls than the rest of us and before long everyone was having a go. To my surprise I actually wasn’t completely crap at it, in fact I managed to hold notes quite well and oddly enough I could sing unnaturally high. So now I fear I’m no longer just the greatest singer in the world but the one who never hit puberty. Note to self, if drunk, keep mouth shut!
Anyway the point I’m trying to make very ineffectively is that Singstar is a fantastic thing to do at parties. Unfortunately we only had the party version which has about 30 songs, but there is also a few other variations of the game which provide heaps more tunes. To be honest I have never used anything on a PS2 that has made me want one, but this really did make it worth having one. If only I could get it on Xbox.
