The big move

Well it’s happened at last, I’ve made the change that my geekness has been begging for, I’ve changed ISPs. You see I was with xtra but frankly I’ve been ashamed of it for some time for a few reasons. Mainly its because of their lack of commitment to IT in NZ, I mean any company that pays out as much money as they do to shareholders then tells the public that they can’t make national traffic on broadband cheaper is just full of shit.

The new crowd I’m with are called Orcon, and I’m impressed already. Not only was the sign up process painless but it was fast, we’re talking 5 min flat and I’m online ready to go. Of course money also came into my decision to change ISPs because unfortunately we don’t have money trees growing at my house yet (resume the experiments annaish). So as of next month I’ll be paying just $49.95 for flat rate 256k DSL, which is a lot better than the old package I had which cost $49.95 for 256k DSL, but only 3gb of traffic (cough cough rip off cough).

So what am I going to do with my new found bandwidth? Well A few things actually. For starters I’m going to stop warring about the amount of traffic I use; I’ve come very close to our 3gb limit far too often. Second I’m going to get an xbox live connection pack for my birthday from someone looks at annaish and play halo 2 until my arms fall off. Three, once I have a wireless network up and running I’ll finally get to live a very very geeky dream of mine to draw a )( on the footpath (or sidewalk for all you Americans).

If you’re not a hell geek (like me) you’re probably thinking “what the hell is a )( and why would you put it on the footpath/sidewalk?” Well allow me to enlighten you.)( is a Warchalking symbol that shows passers by that an open and free Internet connection is available within the area. Now the odds are good that absolutely no one in my area knows this, so I’m not really thinking anyone will us it, but that’s not the point. The point is I’ve always wanted to do it and for some strange reason it will make me feel good.

Anyway I’m hungry and need to eat before I go to the gym so that’s more than enough from me for one day, may the bandwidth be with you.
