The other day I was talking to my brother about this news story and he said “god I hate the US”. As soon as he said this I was suddenly reminded of a comedy routine I saw a few years ago about stupid people. You see the way I look at it my brother doesn’t hate the US, he actually hates stupid people. I mean take a look at the US there are some 250 million people in it, they can’t all be bad. Michael Moore is at least one good American I know of, and he must have some people to “hang with” over there?
Now that I think if it, a lot of this generalisation problem has come from the stupid people in the media. Take something I heard on the radio the other day about an illegal gambling ring broken up somewhere in the south island. The report started out fine with the general what not about the illegal ring, but then right at the end BLAM!, they throw in a classic “the ring was run and organised by Asians”. Oh no not Asians! Aren’t they like 1/4 of the worlds population? Shit we’re going have illegal gambling all over the place!
I mean really how helpful or relevant was it to put in the Asian part in that story? Personally I couldn’t care less where the stupid people came from that stared the gambling ring. Just as long as they aren’t doing it now and they’re in prison with some of the other stupid people of the world.
Anyway I had better stop writing now before I get into an even larger rant about stupidity than I am right now, especially given I’ll end up contradicting myself (if I haven’t already) and then I’ll be the stupid one…
